(Euphorbiaceae)
Euphorbia sikkimensis 'Crûg Contrast’ GWJ9214

Description

From our own collection of this wonderfully colourful species we collected in the Lachen Valley, Eastern Sikkim. A creeping perennial with red buds emerging from the ground soon forming upright reddened stems to 1m tall where we found this form. Bearing yellow inflorescences with showy bracts from June to August. Easily grown in any fertile soil, will also tolerate some severely shaded and dry areas if adequate moisture is supplied in spring.

Euphorbia sikkimensis 'Crûg Contrast’ GWJ9214

Originating from one of our seed collections gathered from a heavily grazed meadow on our way up the Lachen Valley in eastern Sikkim in 2002 with Sally Goddard. This form is distinct from previous forms we have grown in that the foliage is a darker green with a tinge of bronze, while the upright stems and the mid-ribs of the leaves are more of an intense pink rather than red, features that come true from seed in our isolated stocks.
